Paintings
My work is best described as abstract expressionism.
The process of painting is absolutely spontaneous, starting from a large sheet of MDF painted white on my studio floor.
I work layering a variety of materials such as plaster, pigment powders, PVA, aertex, tissue paper, sand, resin, acrylics, gloss paint, varnish, sprays and gold of any sort.
During that evolutionary stage I become aware of the movement, colour and texture dynamics. Only when I can determine the form it is taking can I decide the size of the painting.
The next phase is cropping them, and then the final process often includes the addition of gold or silver acrylic to add richness and accentuate form. Some paintings take days to paint, some just hours.
I like to explore thoughts and emotions through play of colour and form.
My interest is in the power of art to uplift, inspire, nurture and transform.
